Claudette--
Happy New Year! I have just started a blog: The Writer's Desk. In it I will share my process as a
writer. I thought you, your colleagues, and maybe your students might find it interesting.

Hi Claudette (call me Ralph),
Very nice to hear from you. Glad you and your class are enjoying How to Write Your Life Story and Marshfield Dreams. That's a good pairing. I think you would also be interested in my newest professional book--Mentor Author, Mentor Text (Heinemann). It has 24 of my pieces, including several memoir, each one followed with notes to students in
which I try to unpack the piece and explain what I was trying to do. It's perfect for 5th grade.
I'd be happy to see some of your students' pieces. My address is below.
Thanks for being in touch!
Sincerely,
Ralph Fletcher

Good day Mr. Fletcher,
My name is Claudette Daniels. I am an amazing 5th grade teacher at Doherty Elementary School located in West Bloomfield, Michigan. (Well, at least that's what my students tell me.) My students and I are currently reading How to Write Your Life Story. We are strategically embracing the strategies you suggest as we write our autobiographies.
Because of How to Write Your Life Story along with pieces from Marshfield Dreams the students and I are continuously evolving into mature reflective writers. I would like to send you some of their writings if you’re interested. We also have Skype capabilities.
I also included your web page on our class page mrscdaniels.weebly.com.
Best regards,
Claudette Daniels
